In the 60's Dr. Klayton E. Nelson - University of California, Davis - developed a sulfur dioxide releasing device to control the decay of table grape. In 1968 Uvas Quality Packaging Inc. patented this invention and started the production and the use of the device known as Grape Guard. As the Chilean export grape industry grew, the company was relocated in Chile as IMAL Ltda.
